How to Improve Laptop Usage

when it comes to using technology, There are some guidelines you should follow. Some of it are point out below

Shortcuts

For ease of use, group programs in to folders depending on their type or make shortcuts for the programs you use often. This not only saves time but also makes it easier to work. But keep in mind not to add too many icons on the desktop as that may hinder productivity in some way.

Boot Faster

To make the laptop boot faster, remove unwanted programs from start up. To do this, "Press Win+R > type : msconfig > Press Enter > Select Start up tab". Here un check all programs you do not need or use at start up, like Adobe etc.. and when you are done OK.

Un-Installation

Uninstall any application you do not use anymore. This will not only save disk space, but also prevent your laptop from slowing down.

Backup

Occasionally , take a backup of your data on a portable hard drive. So, if your laptop crashes you won't pull your hair out in frustration as you would have a backup of everything important.

Cleanliness

Cleaning you laptop occasionally, especially from the ports will prevent it from heating up.

Power Management

Laptop these days manage power well. In Windows you have a choice to save energy and put it in a low power state or in a full performance state. Alternate between the choice wisely. You can also turn off Wi-Fi and Bluetooth when not in use and even decrease screen brightness to save more power.

Close Applications

Close applications when you are not using them, as they not only hog battery but also lower the Laptop's Performance

Disconnect

Remove external peripherals or Device like external HDDs, Optical drives and Pen drives you do not need them.

Shutdown

When the laptop is not in use for a long time it is better to shut it down rather than putting it on suspended or sleep mode.

Carry Safe

It is better to buy a good laptop bag instead of risking it getting drenched or falling down.

Extra Power

If you have the feeling that your laptop's battery is not up to the mark for you, you can buy a laptop battery that fits your laptop. Although keep in mind that you buy an original battery, and not a local one. As this is very harmful for both, You and the Laptop. There have been cases where, the local battery has exploded and harmed the user.

When Travelling

If you are travelling, you must have a universal socket adapter, as different Countries have different types of power sockets. If you travel to a lot of Countries it is sensible to buy a universal adapter.

Windows 7 Tips How to Create and use invisible desktop folders

How to Create and Use invisible desktop folders

An invisible folder on your desktop would be quite cool, but Windows does not allow you to set such a property for folders. However, a small trick can let you have invisible folders. Go to 'Start | All programs | Accessories | System tools |Character map’. In the list of displayed characters, search for an empty box and select it. You can ‘Select’ it and ‘Copy’ it to the clipboard and then close the Character Map. Now right-click on the desktop with your mouse and create a new folder with the option ‘New - Folder’. Paste over the name proposed by Windows with the character copied from the Character Map using the [Ctrl]+[V] key combination. This was the first trick now you have what looks like a nameless folder on your desktop.
To make the icon of the folder disappear, right-click on the now nameless folder and select the context command ‘Properties’. In the following dialogue, click on ‘Other icon’ in the ‘Customize’ tab. As before in the Character Map, search and mark a space without content under ‘Choose an icon from the following list’. Then confirm your choice with ‘OK’ and close the ‘Properties’ dialogue with ‘OK’ as well. Your folder will have disappeared. To open it, You have to know its position and must double-click on the correct spot on your desktop.
Note that the invisible folder will reveal itself when you drag with the mouse to select and cover a large area of the desktop or when you use the arrow keys to move between icons.

Android Tips Arrange apps as you wish

Arrange apps icon as your wish on Android Device

Android often shows installed apps in the alphabetical order in the app drawer. This makes searching through apps easier, but is not necessarily practical for everyone. A personal individually adjusted sorting sequence is more sensible. Once you're in the app drawer, tap on the right or left (depending the model) upper part above the icons and select “Customisable grid” in the menu. You can change it back to “Alphabetical” if you wish. The version "Most used” brings your favorite apps to the front, but is less recommended since the sorting changes dynamically and can complicate access. Some launchers give you an option to create folders and categories your apps as you see fit. Others have options that can be accessed using the Menu option from the Android action bar i.e. the symbol with three parallel lines. Here, you’ll able to thoroughly personalize the layout by dragging the app icons to their desired positions. Other symbols are re-ordered automatically as you do this. These features aren’t prevalent across Android UIs or launchers and each could have its own options to customize and sequence your apps.

Windows 7 or 8 Tips Set a slideshow as the desktop background

Set a slideshow as the desktop background on Windows 7/8

A slideshow of preset image folders can be set as the desktop background by using the option "Change all images". The images are changed with a short cross fade by default. The time interval for replacing the individual images can be configured in the Registry. For this, type "regedit" in the Start menu, press the Enter key and click "Yes" on the User Account Control dialogue box. Once the Registry Editor opens, navigate to the key "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Personalization\Desktop Slideshow"..Now click in the right side panel and generate the new entry "AnimationDuration" with the command "Edit | New | DWORD value". Now open the new value with a double-click for editing. Change the base to "Decimal" and enter the desired duration in milliseconds. For example, a value of "0" will result in an immediate change without any animations and a value of "5000" will result in a smooth cross-fade animation. Confirm your changes with "OK" and close the registry editor. The changes will be effective immediately.

Connect it to the PC and wait for the drivers to install. The drivers are installed when you see the phone, containing five folders, in windows explorer. Ensure the file format for your phone's SD card is FAT32 file system. Also, you may want to install .NET framework 4.5 or 4.0 if you're running an older system like Windows 7.

Windows 8 Tips Save screen shots directly as an image file

Save screen shots directly as an image file on Windows 8

Use the button combination [Windows] + [Print] to save a screen shot of the current view on your monitor as a PNG file. PNG files can be opened and processed by image editing programs later. Specification Review of HP ELITEPAD 900

Full Featured Review of HP ELITEPAD 900

One of the most affordable and robust Windows 8 tablets around

Windows 8 tablets and hybrid devices powered by Intel's Atom processors score over premium models powered by Core i5 and i7 processors when it comes to battery life. Moreover, they cost half as much and are equally versatile. I already saw some great examples of hybrid devices, such as the HP Envy X2 and Acer Iconia W5, both of which feature detachable designs. The HP ElitePad 900, however, uses a different approach and targets office users.
The ElitePad 900 resembles an elongated iPad—when held in portrait mode, it’s about an inch taller and a few millimetres narrower. The aspect ratio of the display disappointed us a bit: the display has a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels which translates to an aspect ratio of 16:10 unlike most laptops and tablets, which have 1366 x 768-pixel displays and aspect ratios of 16:9. The display is vibrant and is protected by Gorilla Glass 2, but a Full HD panel would've been better. The core of the HP ElitePad 900 isn’t much different from that of the HP Envy x2, Acer Iconia W5 and Dell Latitude 10 ST. The Intel Atom Z2760 processor ticks away at 1.8GHz alongside the 2GB of RAM. The variant we received offers 32GB of onboard storage (eMMC SSD type) and comes with Windows 8.
An almost invisible 8-megapixel camera is also present at the top right corner of the black patch, accompanied by an LED flash. Below that you have the volumerocker, and the other side houses the microSD and SIM card slots under a plastic flap.

With Windows Media Player at hand and the option to install a host of third-party media players, you shouldn’t have any problem playing any file on the ElitePad 900. I didn't face any issues when playing MPEG, MP4 and DivX files but you'll need a compatible third-party media player if you want to play MKV or FLV files. The ElitePad 900 easily handles Full HD videos without any any stutter or lag. As for Viewing photos, I recommend using freeware photo viewers such as Google Picasa or IrfanView, that’s more versatile than the built-in photo viewer in Windows.

PERFORMANCE

The Intel Atom Z2760 is best at running basic everyday apps such as the media player, office suite applications, web browser, email client and Windows’ own native apps. Anything heavier will cause the tablet stutter and lag. So don’t expect this tablet to ace at video trans coding or heavy photo editing. However, I particularly impressed by the quality of pictures taken by the 8-megapixel camera. Shoot indoors or in shade, and you’ll get great looking photos with good detailing and colours. However, the camera struggles when it comes to strong back light and high contrast scenes—the highlights are blown and the colours and details go for a toss.

BATTERY LIFE

On a single charge, the ElitePad 900 survived for 6 hours and 10 minutes, which is very impressive With light usage you can easily expect the battery to last more than 10 hours. With light usage you can easily expect the ElitePad 900's battery to last for more than 10 hours.

VERDICT AND PRICE IN INDIA

The HP ElitePad 900 is available in two variants 32GB storage with Windows 8 and 64GB storage with Windows 8 Pro. These are priced at Rs 42,200 and Rs 46,600 respectively, which is not quite bad for an Atom-powered Windows 8 tablet with 3G SIM support. If the device had built-in USB 2.0 and HDMI ports, along with a Full HD display, it would have been good bang for the buck.
If you have a budget of up to Rs 45,000 for a 3G tablet, then I suggest you go in for the Apple iPad (32GB with Wi-Fi and cellular support). The ElitePad 900 is a worthy consideration only if Windows 8 is a necessity for you.

BlackBerry Messenger comes to iOS and Android

BlackBerry Messenger comes to iOS and Android

Blackberry has done the seemingly unthinkable BBM, the popular BlackBerry only messaging app, will be available on competing devices later this year. The app which was once one of the platform's major draws for non-business customers, will also be given a overhaul with new features including "channels" that brands and companies can use to send updates to users who wish to receive them. The new multi-platform social-centric focus is a huge departure for the company that is struggling to stay afloat now that its products are no longer as popular as they used to be. The BBM announcement came at the end of a two-hour keynote speech at BlackBerry's annual Live developer conference. CEO Thorsten Heins said that BBM's 60 million active users are sending more than 10 billion messages per day, and called it "the most powerful messaging community in the world". However, despite saying the idea was to bring BBM to people no matter who they are and what device they carry, it will only be available on iOS and Android to begin with. Heins said the timing was a statement of confidence in the strength of the BB10 platform; a statement aimed at deflecting the common perception that the move will weaken one of the platform's last remaining attractions. BBM will compete with apps such as Whatsapp and Kik.

First phone with Sailfish OS

First phone with Sailfish OS will launch in 2014

Jolla, the company founded by ex-Nokia staffers who were laid off when the company killed its Meego OS in favour of Windows Phone, is nearly ready to launch its first product. The smartphone, simply named Jolla, will have a 4.5-inch screen, dual-core CPU, LTE support, an 8 Mega Pixel camera, and swappable colour covers that can trigger OS-level actions when attached. The phone will launch at around the same time as phones based on Ubuntu, Tizen and Firefox OS will hit the market. Unlike the others, the Jolla phone will first launch in Europe, where Nokia's historical appeal will give it an advantage. Sailfish OS is based on Linux and will run side loaded Android apps. The interface relies on gestures rather than physical buttons, as Meego was designed to.

Best of World Mobile Congress 2013

Best of World Mobile Congress 2013

MOBILE WORLD CONGRESS. -  Those three words get most smartphone fans salivating at the prospect of seeing the latest and the greatest devices in the world. This year’s event didn’t disappoint, but as most big-name manufacturers preferred to hold their own events before MWC, the show took on a different form.  This year Barcelona saw small manufacturers and hitherto unknowns come to the fore with mega processors, frighteningly large screens and full HD glory.

SMART PHONES

LG OPTIMUS G PRO
LG announced the massive Optimus G Pro, which updates nearly all the internals of the Optimus G. There’s a 5.5-inch IPS LCD on top with a 1920 x 1080 resolution. A Snapdragon 600 SoC ticks inside and there’s a flagship befitting 13-megapixel camera on the back along with a 2.1-megapixel unit on the front. Together, they are capable of neat tricks like dual-recording, which uses both cameras to record a PIP video, or like the VR Panorama Mode, which allows users to click panoramas more easily, just like Google’s Photosphere.

                                                                                                                                                                       NOKIA LUMIA 720

The Finnish company filled up the mid-range void in its WP8 lineup with the Nokia 720, which replaces the Lumia 710. It adds new features and brings the Nokia design language to a mid-range phone without sacrificing on the hardware..There’s Carl Zeiss, BSI 6.7-megapixel camera, besides NFC, Bluetooth 3.0, GPS with GLONASS and the Nokia HERE location apps suite. The only against thing I found in this phone is the resolution of the 4.3-inch display, which is stuck at WVGA. But for around Rs 17,000, we can’t complain too much. But for around Rs 16500, we can’t complain too much

ASUS PADFONE INFINITY

Is it really a smartphone? After all, there are two parts to the PadFone. Asus has endowed both the phone and tablet components with 1080p displays, and the tablet dock for the phone also ensures superb battery life thanks to the additional 5000mAh battery it brings to the package. It is still a very odd device to wrap your head around, and we venture a guess that not many folks will try it, thanks to the exorbitant 999 euro (approximately Rs 71,000) price tag. For that price, at least there’s a quad-core Snapdragon 600 chip clocked at 1.7GHz and an Adreno 320 GPU, while the RAM is a healthy 2GB.

ALCATEL ONETOUCH IDOL X

Alcatel surprised one and all with this 5-inch, 1080p wonder. At only 7.1mm-thick, it’s slim but still manages to pack a quad-core 1.2GHz processor unknown make. With HSPA support, an 8 or 13-megapixel camera (market dependent) on the back, 1080p video recording, a healthy 16GB of internal storage plus a microSD card slot, this phone has all the trappings to attract a smartphone nerd. The 2000 mAh battery, however, makes us worry a little bit. On the other hand, the colourful poly carbonate shells give off a pretty premium vibe.

ZTE OPEN / ALCATEL ONETOUCH FIRE

We can easily combine the first two Firefox OS phones under one subhead. Both the ZTE and the Alcatel handsets have gone with a modest 1GHz single-core processor based on the Cortex A5 chipset. They have the same 3.5-inch display with an HVGA resolution 3.2 mega pixel cameras and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n support. The focus here is on the HTML5-based Firefox OS rather than the hardware, but initial reactions to the new operating system have been less than stellar.

HUAWEI ASCEND P2

Huawei made a splash with its Ascend P2 which has a 4.7-inch 1280 x 720 display and a homegrown Huawei K3V2 CPU with four cores clocked at 1.5GHz. The Ascend P2 runs Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean and is the first smartphone to support LTE Cat 4, which means it can theoretically reach download speeds of up to 150Mbps. The 13-megapixel camera has a BSI sensor and can shoot 1080p HDR videos. But what we really love is the large 2,420 mAh battery.

TABLET

SONY XPERIA TABLET Z

Inspired by the Xperia Z, Sony’s Tablet Z is just 6.9mm in depth and still has IP55/57 certification, which makes it water and dust-proof. Powered by a Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core processor, it runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, and has an 8-megapixel camera on the back, a 2-megapixel front-facing unit, and NFC One-Touch functions, which allow users to transfer content among compatible devices. The 16GB and 32GB versions will retail for $499 (around Rs 26,888) and $599 (around Rs 32,277), respectively.

 HP SLATE 7

We were expecting great things from the
first HP Android tablet, but the Slate 7 which will retail for $169.99 (around Rs 9,221), is decidedly middling. The Slate 7 runs on an ARM dual-core Cortex A9  1.6GHz CPU and has 1GB of RAM. Thankfully, there is stock Android 4.1 Jelly Bean in the software department. The initial reaction of the press folk at MWC toward the FFS+LCD screen has been quite lukewarm and not just due to the low 1024 x 600-pixel resolution. Just like every new HP device, this one has Beats Audio processing. Rounding off the package is a 3-megapixel camera on the back and a VGA one up front.
